But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish [confirm] strengthen, settle you – 1st Peter 5:10.
Pain comes in many forms: physical, mental, financial, and relational. In life, we will suffer one of these or all of them.
There are things we all have to face and are going to face that will seem too difficult to bear: losing a loved one, having a spouse hurt you physically, emotionally, or verbally. Having a child or parent suffering from mental illness, you name it, and someone has gone through it.
Pain when losing a loved one, you will feel the grief and the pain of loss. When a spouse damages you physically or emotionally, it does not go away overnight. The memories will be rehearsed in your mind for years. Children or parents suffering from mental illness, and you can’t connect with them or heal their illness.
If you find yourself going through pain, there is always a purpose in the pain you’re feeling. God never allows anything to come into our lives without purpose. Take Job, he was a man who loved God, and the Bible says he eschewed [shunned] evil, but yet he lost everything he had, along with his health. He was covered with boils from the crown of his head to the bottom of his feet.
Job could have questioned God about why he would allow such things to happen to him, but he didn’t murmur or complain; he worshiped God. He didn’t worship Him for what he was going through; he worshiped God because he knew God had a plan and he would bring him out.
Most likely, Job was in pain physically, mentally, and emotionally, and besides this, he had three friends to come and tell him that he had sinned. Wherever you’re going, through God is the God of all comfort (Who comforteth us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort them which are in any trouble [tribulation] by the comfort wherewith we ourselves are comforted of God – 2nd Corinthians 1:4). So what is the purpose of your pain “That we may comfort others in their trouble”. When we have gone through different pains, we will have empathy for others. The reason you’re going through the pain and heartache is to come alongside others who are experiencing the same thing.
Secondly, you need to know that the pain you are going through serves the purpose of what God does in you and what He can do through you to bless others. Be like Job, continue to serve and worship God, place your faith in Him and not what you see, hear, or feel, and He will bless you just like He did with Job.
God never allows us to go through pain without a purpose and a blessing.
