Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things – Philippians 4:8.

Thoughts become actions, whether physically or emotionally. Thoughts can wipe away happiness. They can bring one to a state where they will begin to doubt God and themselves.

What we think about can either boost our faith or zap our faith. Our thinking can bring us into depression; then, we will seek after man rather than seek God for the problem. There was once a time we would go to our pastor for counseling. The pastor will tell the congregation if permitted to do so, and the congregation would pray for the situation or circumstances.

Sadly, psychology and psychiatry have assumed the role of the Lord and the pastor for the person’s needs. With psychology taking the position of pastor and counselor, Christians suffer. Those who need divine deliverance and healing from addiction, anxiety, depression, oppression and suicidal thoughts, family troubles, and stress are being redirected from Jesus to the science of mind and behavior.

The problem with psychology is that it declares neither the cause of one’s problem nor does it cure. Psychologist centers on the symptoms. When Christians go to a psychologist and when their symptoms are identified, they grow confident that the psychologist also knows the cause and cure for their problems, but they don’t (It is better to trust in the Lord than to put confidence in man – Psalm 118:8).

Many Christian counselors are showing up, and the problem with Christian counselors is that they don’t view the Bible as sufficient to heal or get through the issue, so they grab humanistic psychology and try to intertwine the two. What they fail to realize is that problems in living, emotional, mental, relational, or behavioral, all of it has a spiritual core to it.

When Christians fail to involve Jesus in their problems, they reject His counseling. There is not a problem or issue one may have that they can’t take to Jesus in prayer and receive the answer and the deliverance they need.

It takes an effort and commitment to pray; going to a psychologist and psychiatrist, all you do is tell them your symptoms, and they try to interpret what’s going on with you through their degrees and not by the Spirit of God. Some of them are going to psychologists and psychiatrists themselves.

There was a King, Asa was his name; at the beginning of his reign, he did what was good and right in the eyes of the Lord. In the 39th year of his reign, he turned from seeking God and relied on physicians for his healing. Mind you, there is nothing wrong with seeing medical doctors. One of Jesus’s disciples was a physician. Because King Asa sought physicians rather than God, he died with the disease in his feet.

We go to physicians when need be, but before we go to physicians, we pray first. Because the one we place our trust and confidence in will be the one we consult first.

When we place our trust in the physician more than we do the Lord, that’s where we have made the physician our god rather than allowing the Lord to be our God! Christians should have faith in the God they say they worship. There is nothing too large or too small that we can go to the Lord in prayer about.

Have you ever had a psychologist or psychiatrist pray with you for God to reveal what is the root of the problem you’re having? If the root is not revealed, the problem and symptoms will continue. Tell God about your behavior or symptoms and ask for healing; you may not receive your healing instantly, continue to pray and fast.

If need be, get one of your sisters in the church to pray and fast with you for your healing. Most emotional problems are spiritual, and the root of the problem needs to be exposed. There are times when one must seek a psychiatrist because of mental illness a chemical imbalance in the brain.

As Christians, we should never place anyone or anything before God. Men without God in their lives can’t do for you what God can. A godly man or woman can pray you through until gives you the healing and deliverance you need.

Always be careful of who you allow to speak into your head and your spirit!
