Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee – 2nd Timothy 1:6.
Each of us possesses gifts and abilities that God has given us. God gives us natural gifts and spiritual gifts. For instance, you may have the gift to sew or draw that would be a natural gift. A spiritual gift would be the gift of discernment or the gift of knowledge. Spiritual gift differs from natural gifts.
Whether we’re Christians or non-believers God has gifted each of us with gifts. Gifts are those God has given us and weren’t taught. Some have the gift of organizing, or teaching, whatever that gift is you will be good at it.
Gifts were not given to us for our usage only, but to be a blessing to someone else. The Bible admonishes us to use our gifts of experience to help others in many ways. For example, older women can share practical information with younger women on how to maintain godly homes, and how to minister to their spouse.
Some have been gifted with the gift of exhortation, they can assist those with low self-esteem or a thirst for the things of God. Some may say I don’t have a gift, but yes, you have a gift naturally and spiritually. No one has been born and God did not gift them naturally and spiritually.
The gift must be used to perfect it, many gifts are lying dormant because they aren’t being used. The more you use it, the better it will become. What do you find yourself doing and get so much pleasure out of doing it, most likely that is your gift. If you don’t know the gifts God has given you, ask Him what are your gifts and He will have you start paying attention to the gifts He has given you. Most of the time we are operating in gifts and don’t realize them.
Gifts are not given for us to show off, or to compete with others, but to be a blessing to others. Whatever you find yourself doing and it just comes naturally, that’s a gift. God blesses us to be a blessing to others through the gifts He has imparted to us.
