I exhort, therefore, that first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men. For kings, and for all that are in authority, that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty – 1st Timothy 2:1-2.
Deborah was a leader of Israel, a prophetess, and a judge. Deborah was described as a mother in Israel because of her role in delivering God’s people.
The children of Israel had sinned against the Lord and He allowed their enemy to take them captive by oppressing them. The Lord must have spoken to Barak earlier about what He wanted him to do, but he didn’t do anything so the Lord informed the prophetess and she sent for Barak and asked him ” Hath not the Lord God of Israel commanded, saying, Go and draw [deploy troop] mount Tabor and take with thee ten thousand men of the children of Naphtali and the children of Zebulun”?
Barak’s answer ” If thou wilt go with me, then I will go: but if thou wilt not go with me, then I will not go”. Although Barak was skilled in fighting, he wanted the prophetess to accompany him in this battle. Many women have Barak’s for husbands, the Lord has called them to battle for their families but they will not come under the leadership of the Commanding Chief, so the wife has to take the role of the soldier and priest of the home.
Don’t murmur or complain or talk about him, put your armor on and fight for him and your family. You may be the only one praying, fighting, and fasting for your family. Don’t get discouraged, make a conscious decision you will not allow Satan to take your spouse or your family. This means you can’t patty-cake Satan and his imps. You must fight with the Word of God, know who you are in the Lord, and fight until you see a manifestation of your prayers being answered.
Be consistent in prayer, and be faithful in reading the Bible so that you will know your weaponry. When you abide in His Word and His Word abide in you, you can ask what you will and it shall be done according to the Word of God.
What does it mean to abide? It’s to remain in the teaching of the Word of God even when it doesn’t make sense. It’s to believe His Word is true and you will stand firm on His Word. As you do that you will see things that used to bother you will no longer bother you. The actions you used to do, you have no desire anymore. The fear you used to have replaced with boldness.
Throughout generations, someone has prayed for their family, God always has someone in a family to be the one who prays for the family and everything He instructs them to pray for. If we want to see a change in our homes, schools, communities, and government, it’s going to take prayer. Be the Deborah that will fight and not give up be the Deborah that tears down strongholds!
Take the time out each day to pray and read the Bible, you can’t fight effectively without your weaponry.
