For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise – 2nd Corinthians 10:12.

Comparing oneself with someone else is a sign of insecurity. Sadly, this generation thrives on what someone else has and on whether they can outdo them.

Comparison, insecurity, and covetousness should not be in the heart of a believer. As Christians, we should be happy when God has blessed another sister, brother, or couple, rather than envying them, comparing ourselves to what they have, or trying to outdo them.

This is the spirit of the Adversary and not of Christ. This kind of spirit is in nonbelievers; they like to compare and commend themselves. As a Christian, be content with what God has blessed you with, and when you’re grateful, He will bless you with more.

As long as you live, there will always be someone prettier, smarter, more educated, and more financially balanced than you. Comparing oneself is like walking on a treadmill and not going anywhere. You will spend the rest of your life comparing and trying to outdo someone else.

This same spirit has entered the Christian community. Sisters are trying to outdress one another, who’s driving the most expensive car. Who can sing, preach, or teach better than someone else? People are coming to church, and they come in seeing a competition.

Unity is what is lacking when there is no unity in the home; it carries out into the neighborhood, schools, churches, and places of employment, as well as our government offices. Women were created to influence, build, and encourage. Let’s stop comparing ourselves and begin to build one another. Stop destroying people emotionally and mentally on social media.

If you’re Christian, God will hold you responsible for those you bless and those you destroy with your attitude and your mouth. People who are not content like to compare themselves with others as well as destroy others to make themselves look or feel good. When you’re grateful, it will manifest in your attitude. Your attitude can bless you or destroy you!
