Then saith the woman of Samaria unto Him. How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? For the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans – John 4:9.

The Samaritans had intermarried with Gentiles (non-Jews) during the Assyrian captivity and produced children. Jews would avoid coming in contact with them at any cost because they were considered unclean.

Jesus was on His way to Galilee, but He needed to stop by Samaria because there was a woman there He needed to see. She was a Samaritan woman and an outcast because she had been married five times, and the man she was living with was not her husband.

She couldn’t go to the well and get water during the cool of the day with the other women because she was considered an outcast; no respectable woman wanted to be seen with her. Jesus knew her lifestyle, but it didn’t matter to Him; He came to save the lost.

He knew to meet the woman at the well, and at the time she would be coming to the well. He went to Samaria to bring healing to this woman, both mentally and spiritually. He was concerned about one woman.

He didn’t start the conversation by telling this woman how bad she was and that she was a sinner. He got her attention by telling her that if she knew the gift of God and who was talking with her, she would have asked Him, and He would have given her living water.

Jesus asked her to call her husband. The woman’s reply was, ‘I have no husband.’ Jesus said, ‘You have answered correctly, and the man you’re living with now is not your husband.’ The woman thought He was a prophet because He told her about herself. She went on to say her father worshiped on this mountain. She told her the time was coming when the true worshipers would worship the Father in Spirit and in truth.

The woman believed in Jesus and went into the city and told others about Jesus. Many of the Samaritans believed in Jesus because of the testimony of the Samaritan woman. You may have been considered an outcast because of your lifestyle.

You may be the one who has had two or three husbands, or a live-in boyfriend. You may have aborted your child, be addicted to alcohol, or be a drug user. Whatever you have done, Jesus is there to meet you where you’re at. All you have to do is confess what you have done and ask Him to become Lord of your life. Everything you have done will be erased, thrown in the sea of forgiveness, and you will be a child of God.

You can’t get yourself together before coming to God; only He can get you together. There is no sin you can commit other than blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. He will accept you in your home, car, and grocery store. Wherever you may be, He will come into your life and give you a new life. He will make you a member of the family of God.

You don’t have to continue being ashamed and sorry. Jesus came to heal the hurting emotionally and to heal their souls.
