And behold, a woman which was diseased with an issue of blood twelve years came behind Him, and touched the hem of His garment – Matthew 9:20.
Issues come in many forms: issues of health, issues of finances, issues of marital problems; whatever the issue is, the Lord can resolve the issue!
Jesus was on His way to heal Jarius’ daughter when a woman who had a chronic illness approached Him and touched the hem of His garment. Before touching His garment, she said within herself, “If I may but touch His garment, I shall be whole”. Can you imagine having a flow of blood for twelve years? She was removed from society because she was considered “unclean”. With the issue, she most likely had a smell; she was an outcast. Nobody wanted to be around her; she had no one she could talk to, no one to show her compassion.
This issue most likely caused her to not be able to work to provide for herself after she had spent all her money on physicians. She may have been hungry, finding pieces of food wherever she could. Needed a place to stay, but wasn’t able to purchase shelter because of her issue. She was destitute and may have been forced to beg.
After spending all of her money on physicians, she became worse rather than better. Since she was a woman, she didn’t get the best of treatment from the men doctors. Scripture does not state the pain and suffering this woman went through with her issue with doctors practicing on her for a cure.
One day, she heard about Jesus coming to town, and she went out to meet Him. Since she was not allowed in the public, she had to stoop or crawl low to the ground to go in between the people to reach Jesus. For her to touch the hem of His garment meant she was low to the ground. She didn’t let the issue or the people stop her from getting to Jesus.
After reaching Him, she touched the hem of His garment and was healed (But Jesus turned Him about, and when He saw her, He said, Daughter, be of good comfort; thy faith hath made thee whole. And the woman was made whole from that hour – Matthew 9:22). Whatever issues are going on in your life is not greater than the Master who makes things impossible, possible.
You may have been cast out of society, family, and spouse, but Jesus has open arms to welcome you. Your issue is not too stinky or too disgusting that He will not welcome you to cure your issue. Jesus does not discriminate; He does not disregard the broken, abused, and misused.
Sometimes, to bring us to Him, He will allow everything that can go wrong to go wrong to bring us to Him. He sees our lifestyle, and He knows if He does not draw us to Him, we’re headed to a life of eternal damnation. Jesus loves you more than you love yourself or anyone else’s love.
Bring your issues to Him, let Him set you free from the burdens of life. He came to set the captive free. When Jesus frees you, nothing or anyone can give you an issue that will break you.
