If a man die, shall he live again? All the days of my appointed time will I wait till my change come – Job 14:14.
Waiting on God is easier said than done, but we will reap the reward if we do. Waiting strengthens our faith and our commitment to God.
Job loved God and lived a life that pleased God; the Bible says he was perfect and upright. One day, when the angels came to present themselves before the Lord, Satan was also among them. The Lord asked Satan where he had been. Satan replied that he was going to and fro in the earth and walking up and down in it.
Satan was looking for someone to attack with influence. The Lord asked Satan if he had considered His servant Job. The Lord bragged about him, saying there was no one like him on earth, a perfect and upright man who feared God and shunned evil.
Satan told the Lord He had placed a hedge around Job and his possessions, but if He took the hedge from around him, Job would curse Him. Satan had to get permission from the Lord before attacking Job. The Lord allowed Satan to attack his children; he lost everything, including his health. He had boils from the crown of his head to the bottom of his feet.
One may ask why God would allow such a thing to happen to Job when he was living a righteous life. No one knows God’s mind, but we know that whatever He allows has a purpose. God allowed Job to suffer, but in his suffering, he learned more about God and what was in him.
Job had a self-righteous spirit that needed to be brought to his attention. Although God bragged about Job, God wanted something in his life destroyed that was self-righteous and brought about pride. Throughout everything Job went through, he never cursed God nor blamed Him.
He could have started to murmur or complain, asking why he was going through what he was going through, but he didn’t. He praised and honored God. When we’re going through difficulties, we should be like Job, honor and praise God.
There is nothing wrong with asking why, but do it in the right spirit. Ask God if any sin in your life is causing you to go through what you’re going through. If He doesn’t show you or tell you, then He’s bragging about you, the reason Satan is attacking you.
The closer you get to the Lord and your commitment, don’t think Satan will not come to influence you to do differently. He’s there to influence you to lose faith in God and your commitment to Him. If you are steadfast and unmoveable in your commitment, you will reap the blessings Satan tried to get you to abort.
God never allows His children to endure hardship and does not reward them for their faithfulness. When Satan attacks, you attack with praise and songs to God. Be faithful to God, and He will be faithful to you!
