Who can find a virtuous woman? For her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her so that he shall no need of spoil. She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness. Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her – Proverbs 31:10-11, V.27-28.
As the Book of Proverbs begins with the Prologue (1:1-7), which gives the goals of wisdom in general terms, so now it concludes with this Epilogue (vv. 10-31), which presents them in a case study. The opening word “Who can find “positions this woman as an ideal. The phrase “a virtuous wife” speaks of excellence, moral worth, ability, and nobility, not just marital fidelity. Such a woman is the ideal of wisdom in action.
Anyone who thinks about marriage needs to be prepared for marriage. Sadly, too many of our young women today are not ready, nor are they prepared for marriage. Marriage is to be until one or the other dies; it’s to be honored and respected. It’s not just a quick fix to satisfy one’s sexual desires for gratification without the penalty of not sinning against their body. Marriage was ordained by God, and it’s sacred.
Before marriage, both husband and wife should seek spiritual counselling from their pastor. A good pastor is a praying pastor who hears from God to lead His people by the principles of God’s Word. He or she will counsel to make sure the marriage will be successful.
When marrying, both the wife and husband should be bringing their plans and finances together as one. The wife is not the financial supporter of the family; the man should be the responsible source, but she also should be bringing some type of financial support to the marriage, unless they have agreed for her to be a stay-at-home mom. If one or both have bad credit, the financial foundation most likely will be unstable, and neither one is thinking about the future of their family.
Neither one should be overwhelmed with bills; bills that can’t be paid will deplete a marriage because of the stress, or both spouses working two or three jobs to make sure the bills are paid. Each party should come with minimal bills, bills that can be paid off without stress.
The husband has an important role in making the family spiritually inclined. The wife has the role of following her husband as well as making a home feel like a home. She’s the one who gives her children spiritual incite of the principles of God through praying with them and teaching them how to pray. She’s the one who will pray for the family’s well-being. A praying mother will always know what is going on with her family’s well-being because she’s connected with the Father, who will tell her what’s really going on in the family.
The wife prays for her husband; she admonishes him for the things he does for the family. When the husband is built up, he will do everything possible for the wife and for the family. Through wisdom and knowledge, she helps her husband with plans that will benefit the family. Her wisdom and knowledge come through her spending time with the Father, as He instructs her, she pours into her husband and children.
A praying wife is the foundation of a happy and peaceful marriage. Through her prayers, her family is kept safe, and through her prayers, doors of opportunity are open for her and her family. Through her prayers, she keeps back the hands of people the adversary would use to destroy her and her family.
