In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness [propriety] and sobriety [moderation] and sobriety; not with braided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array [clothing].  But (which becometh women professing godliness) with good works – 1st Timothy 2:9-10.

Appropriate dress is not just for women who attend church or professing to be a Christian; although this Scripture is pertaining to those whose professing to be Christians.  A dress code is established with most employers; probably due to the fact, some women will come to work dress inappropriately, if an employer can establish a dress code, surely a church can. The reason for the dress code is to protect the pastor and other males who are trying to live a godly life.  It’s hard for the pastor to keep focus if a woman is sitting in front of him with her bosom revealed or her skirt is short enough to observe her thighs. This is provocative and it shouldn’t be in the church. The pastor neither the other male minster’s can pray for a woman effectively, when she comes to the altar for prayer if she’s dressed revealing her bosom or other parts that should be covered.

Women should be aware of their dress attire when attending church; are they trying to get attention? Are they attending church to get a boyfriend or entice someone’s husband? A woman that seduces a godly man will be compensated by God (But whoso shall offend [cause to sin] one of these little ones which believe in me, it were better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea.  Woe unto the world because of offenses [enticements o sin]! for it must need be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offenses cometh – Matthew 18:6-7!  Although the Scripture indicates a man it means mankind which includes women. Men look at the outer appearance, and some may be weak in their faith, they shouldn’t be influenced to live outside of what the Word of God teaches.  A man whose heart has not been completed giving themselves to God will be influenced, and those whose is right with God but doesn’t have the strength to resist will except the influence and when looking for a wife will marry one whose conscience about their dress attire. As women, leave something for the imagination!

God’s house should be reverence (Keep thy foot when thou goest to the house of God, and be more ready to hear, than to give the sacrifice of fools: for they consider not that they do evil – Ecclesiastes 5:1). Consider what you’re wearing, examine your motives when you dress to influence and especially when you’re going into the house of God.
